→ About the International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics

The International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics is an association of the International Statistical Institute dedicated to promoting business and industrial statistics worldwide. The International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics promotes the application, research, and best practices of statistics in business and industry, facilitating technology transfer and bridging communication between members and practitioners worldwide.

History
The International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics started in 1990 within the International Statistical Institute as a Working Group in Industrial Statistics. Following a suggestion by Lai K. Chan that ISI should play a role in promoting the area. An open meeting was held at the 1989 ISI Biennial Session, now called World Statistics Congress, in Paris.

The group was successful in organising and sponsoring various activities and stimulating broad participation.

This led to the formation of an International Statistical Institute Standing Committee on Statistics in Industry in 1992.

The scope of the committee was broadened to include business statistics and the name was changed to Statistics in Business and Industry in 1999.
