—
Committed to improve official statistics as an evidence policy making.
The general aimmof the International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS) is to promote the understanding and advancement of official statistics and related subjects, and to foster the development of effective and efficient official statistical services through international contacts among individuals and organizations, including users of official statistics as well as research institutes.
IAOS through its various initiatives is working with stakeholders to promote the understanding and advancement of official statistics, as we all transition to the new landscape, where the official statistics operates. IAOS brings together producers and users of official statistics. 2022 brought the IAOS community together in Krakow for our first face-to-face conference since the pandemic, under the theme of “Worthy Information for Challenging Times”. While the IAOS is nearly 50 years old, it continues to transform. The Krakow conference saw the launch of the Krakow Group, which will deal with the Use and Misuse of Statistics. Activities such as the Young Statisticians Prize and Statistical Journal of the IAOS (SJIAOS), both strongly supported across developing and developed countries, continue to showcase new and emerging issues relevant to our community.
Objectives
The objectives of the IAOS are to promote the understanding and advancement of official statistics and related subjects and to foster the development of effective and efficient official statistical services, particularly in developing countries.
Governance
IAOS is an Association constitutive of professionals who have scientific or professional interest in the field of official statistics. It is run by an Executive Committee elected for a period of two years.

The winners of 2020 and 2021, who could not come to the previous conferences due to the COVID-19 pandemic, received their prizes in April 2023, while attending the 17th IAOS-ISI Conference, in Livingstone, Zambia.
We are very happy that we could acknowledge their excellent work. The international prize encourages young statisticians to take an active interest in official statistics and is awarded for the best paper in the field of official statistics written by a young statistician.
