ISBIS: International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics
—
Statistics for the purpose of decision making in the real world.
The International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics (ISBIS) started in 1990 within the ISI as a Working Group in Industrial Statistics. Following a suggestion by Lai K. Chan that ISI should play a role in promoting the area, an open meeting was held at the 1989 ISI Biennial Session (now called World Statistics Congress) in Paris. The group was successful in organizing and sponsoring various activities and stimulating broad participation. This led to the formation of an ISI Standing Committee on Statistics in Industry (CSI) in 1992. The scope of the committee was broadened to include business statistics and the name was changed to Statistics in Business and Industry (SBI) in 1999.
2022 was a new look year for ISBIS in terms of us getting past the pall of the pandemic by being in-person for our biannual conference (Naples, Italy), and redesigning our website as a step toward improving our member engagement.
Objectives
ISBIS is dedicated to promoting the advancement and exchange of knowledge in business and industrial statistics, build association and collaboration among international statisticians working in business and industry. It aims to foster cooperation at an international level between statistical activities in business and industry among groups and organizations working in academia, private, and public sectors.
